If people don't know alphabet, people can't study English!

It's the same as Japanese.

However in Japanese, there are three types of characters.

Katakana is basically used for foreign language.

And Kanji is used for reading Japanese sentences easier.

If you are not able to read Hiragana, study Hiragana first!
